The Prison Bars of Ignorance

Dearly beloved of God, apart from the Word of God we know nothing of God, Christ, the gospel of God concerning His Son Jesus Christ, salvation, or our hope of glory. Apart from God’s Word we know nothing of the purpose of the ages that God purposed in the Christ. The prison bars of bondage are forged with ignorance.

When the Lord was tempted by the adversary, his response to him was “It is written.” He said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”

He further said that the words he spoke were not his personally, they were the Father’s. He said, “My doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me.”

The Lord Jesus Christ said ”…the Scripture cannot be broken,” yet many today find no value in it; the Lord staked his life on it.

The Lord said, “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

The Lord said that we would be judged by the words he spoke.

“And if any man hears my words, and believes not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day for I have not spoken of myself, but the Father which sent me, He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that His commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”

In spite of the gravity of his words, people say, “So what?”

In the garden at the end of his life, he said, “I have given unto them the words which Thou [God, His Father] gavest me….” He said, “I have given them Thy Word.” This was Jesus Christ’s summation of his life’s work. He obviously thought of God’s Word differently than most think of it today.

Since all people will be judged in the last day by the word that the Lord Jesus spoke, you would think that people would not want to remain ignorant of God’s Word.

In his last conversation with his disciples before he ascended into heaven, he told them to “…wait for the promise of the Father which you heard from me. For John truly baptized with water; but you will be baptized with the holy spirit not many days hence.” He told them they would receive power after the holy spirit came upon them and they would be witnesses unto him.

What is man’s response? For many it is, “So what.” Instead of learning from the mouth of God, they hold on to their traditions, their superstitions, the doctrines of men, and turn the truth of God into something queer.

The Lord Jesus Christ said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” I have heard men who purport to represent God say that after God gave His spirit that God’s Word is no longer important. Really? Chapter and verse please.

We have two choices: we can believe the Lord Jesus Christ, or we can believe someone else; we will know for sure in the last day. It would be wise to take what anyone has to say and compare it to what God, or His Son had to say. The Word of God allows us to separate truth from error.

It would be profitable to listen to what the Lord told the people of Israel. “Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

It would take a lot to get me to reject what God says for what a man has to say. Don’t be deceived, dearly beloved. The prison bars of bondage are forged with ignorance. God’s people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge of His Word. The Lord Jesus Christ said the truth will make you free.
