God’s High Priest
Dearly beloved of God, Jesus Christ the Lord is the only priesthood recognized by God today.
“Every priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.” Hebrews 5:1
“And no man takes this honor to himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron. So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou are my Son, today have I begotten thee.” Hebrews 5: 4 and 5
“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold hast our profession [confession; that of the gospel of God concerning His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ].
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16
Jesus Christ was called of God and made a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. Melchisedec means the king of righteousness. He was the King of Salem, and Salem means the king of peace.
Jesus Christ continues forever, having an unchangeable priesthood. He ever lives to make intercession for the people; he is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by him.
Dearly beloved, he did not offer up sacrifices of animals, he offered up himself for our sins.
“Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.” Hebrews 8:1-3
By his own blood he entered once into the holy place [the Holy of Holies], having obtained eternal redemption for us. Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Every priest under the law stood daily offering sacrifices which can never take away sins, but this man, the Lord Jesus Christ, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he has perfected forever them that are sanctified.
Jesus Christ is the mediator of the new covenant of the spirit. God said, “I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.”
Rejoice dearly beloved, the only priesthood that God recognizes today in the Administration of the Grace of God is that of the Lord Jesus Christ. He ever lives to make intercession for the saints, he saves to the uttermost, and he has perfected forever them that he sanctified.
Through the Lord Jesus Christ we have access by one spirit to the Father.
Now we have confidence to enter the Holy of Holies by his blood by a new and living way, which he consecrated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having an High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in absolute certainty of believing.
He fulfilled the law for righteousness to all who believe on him.
Dearly beloved, let us come boldly and confidently unto the throne of grace so that we may receive mercy and grace to help in time of need. In Christ Jesus we have boldness and access to the Father with confidence through the believing in him: use it dearly beloved.
