Lesson Six: The Origin of the Word of God
Dearly beloved of God, since people communicate with words, God communicated to people with His Word. The Bible is the revealed Word of God, and it reveals His Will.
All Scripture is God-breathed, and it is profitable. God gave His Word to holy men of God by revelation, and they wrote it down at His direction. It did not come by the will of man.
Exodus 17: 14
And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua….
Where did Moses get this information? God spoke to Him, and He told Moses to write it down, so he did.
Exodus 24: 3, 4, 8
3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.
4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD….
8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the People, and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.”
Moses came to the people and told them what the LORD God said, and they agreed to keep the LORD’S words. Next, “Moses wrote all the words of the LORD.” The Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel concerning all these words. Let’s consider another record.
Jeremiah 30:1 and 2
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.
God spoke to Jeremiah, and Jeremiah recorded the words that God spoke to him in a book as God directed him.
Jeremiah 36:2-4
2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
God is the Holy Spirit. He put His spirit upon holy men of God and spoke to them by revelation, by word of knowledge and word of wisdom, and gave them His Word.
In this instance, God spoke to Jeremiah. Jeremiah dictated the words that the LORD spoke to him to Baruch the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote them in a book.
The Bible is the revealed Word of God, and it reveals His Will to us in the realm of the five senses. Let’s consider one more example.
Ephesians 3:2-6
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
Where did the Apostle Paul get this information? He received it from God. God authored the information concerning the administration of the grace of God. He gave the information to Paul by revelation, and Paul wrote it down. This knowledge was not known in other ages, but God has now revealed it unto His holy apostles and prophets by the spirit.
Now we can read the Word of God and understand the knowledge that God revealed to the Apostle Paul regarding the administration of the grace of God and the mystery of God concerning Christ.
I Timothy 2:3 and 4
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
God has not held out on us; He revealed His Word to holy men of God and they recorded it. All Scripture is God-breathed, and it is profitable. The profit here is that He would have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. The Word of God reveals the Will of God. As Christians, we must recognize the integrity of God’s Word, and believe Him if we are to walk with Him.
