The Treasure is There
Dearly beloved of God, the Word of God reveals the Will of God. It says what it means, and it means what it says. God’s Word reveals His wisdom.
God gave His Word as our source for the truth; as our reference for learning concerning spiritual matters. The Word of God is God speaking.
God revealed His Word in writing so that we have a permanent record of the truth. God stands behind His Word, and He is able and willing to perform it.
Under the Old Covenant God gave Israel the law of Moses. Under the New Covenant He has revealed His Will to the Church in the Church Epistles. These epistles reveal the wisdom of God concerning Christ and what he accomplished.
Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Truth does not begin with the intelligence of man; it comes from the genius of God. The Word of God reveals the wisdom of God.
If Christians are to know what to believe, we must hear what God has to say in His Word. God revealed His Word in His capacity as the Originator of information.
II Timothy 3:16 reveals that all Scripture is God-breathed, and it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
Jesus Christ said that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”
Man needs the wisdom of God because his human wisdom is simply inadequate. If we compare human wisdom to God’s wisdom it is laughable.
I Corinthians 2: 4-14
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith [believing] should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect [mature ones]: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world [age], that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world [ages] unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world [age] knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
The word “spirit” is the Greek word “pneuma.” It appears six times between verses 10 and 16 contrasting God who is Spirit, and the revelation of His wisdom with man and human wisdom. God is the Originator of information that He reveals.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man [an idiom referring to the life of man] which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom [human wisdom] teacheth, but [words] which the Holy Ghost [Holy Spirit: God in His capacity as the Originator of information] teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
We do not have persuade God of His Word; we are the ones that must be fully persuaded about the information He has revealed to us. His Word is the truth. He said what He meant, and He meant what He said.
We must convince ourselves that we are who He says we are in Christ, we have what He says we have, and we can do what He enabled us to do. The only place we can acquire this treasure of information is from the Word of God, the Bible.
Whose word can we trust for spiritual understanding if we cannot take God at His Word?
God wants all people to come to the knowledge of the truth. God is not holding out on us.
God our Father wants us to have the complete certainty of understanding of the mystery of God concerning Christ, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
God has revealed this treasure is in His Word, so start digging, dearly beloved of God.
