What’s in a Name?
Dearly beloved of God, a person’s name represents their accomplishments, their position, their power and authority, their reputation and characteristics, and their interests. The name of the Lord Jesus Christ is the sweetest name I know.
What did God make Jesus after He resurrected him out from among the dead?
Acts 2:29-36
29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell [the grave, the state of death], neither his flesh did see corruption.
32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
God made Jesus both Lord and Christ.
God exerted the exceeding greatness of His power when He raised Jesus out from among the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly realm far above every principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the coming age; and He put all things under his subjection, and made him the head over all things in the Church, which is his body. Read Ephesians 1:19-23.
God highly exalted Jesus Christ, and gave him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee is to bow in heaven and on earth and those in the grave, and that every tongue is to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. See Philippians 2:9-11.
The name of the Lord Jesus Christ represents his position, his power and authority, his accomplishments, his reputation, and his interests. God exalted the Lord Jesus Christ above all others now, and in the ages to come.
Romans 10:9-13
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
All who call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved. Anyone can appeal to God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.
Acts 2:38. 39
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of [from] the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
We are not baptized in water as the Judeans were by John the Baptist. We are now baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, which is in his accomplishments.
When they were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, they received the remission of sins, and the gift from the Holy Spirit. They were born again of the spirit from God by incorruptible seed, and became the children of God, His heirs, and joint heirs with Christ.
Jesus Christ’s name is associated with his accomplishments, and his position of power at the Father’s right hand; it is above all others in this age and in the age to come.
What's in a name? In the name of Jesus Christ, and by his accomplishments we are saved, redeemed, justified, sanctified, washed, forgiven, and made the righteousness of God in him. We stand before God as holy and without blame and we are unimpeachable in His sight. The Father freely gives us all things with His Son. We will glorified with him.
Those who are in Christ Jesus are no longer guilty before God; there is no more condemnation from God concerning them. They were justified by Christ and by his accomplishments.
The Lord Jesus Christ delivered us from the wrath to come, and in him we have good hope through grace.
When God sends His Son to gather us together, both the dead in Christ and those who are alive and remain will be caught up together in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. We are to comfort one another with these words, dearly beloved.
It will take the Father the ages to come to display the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. We will acquire the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I John 3: 21-24
21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24 And he that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in him, and He in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
What’s in a name, dearly beloved? When we are considering the name of Jesus Christ there is quite a lot involved. There is much more to consider than I have covered in this brief article. The name of the Lord Jesus Christ is the sweetest name I know.
