He Understands the Trial of Our Believing
Dearly beloved of God, the Lord Jesus Christ was tempted in all things as we are, yet he was without sin. He knows what we go through because he experienced it firsthand himself.
Isaiah 53:3-5
He [Jesus] is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely He has borne our griefs [sicknesses] And carried our sorrows [pains]; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
None of us have gone through the intense suffering he endured.
Hebrews 12:2-4
Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of the faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, if perhaps you are weary and faint in your minds; you have not yet resisted unto blood striving against sin.
He knew grief; he wept over Israel when he knew the nation had rejected him. It broke his heart.
Isaiah says that he “set his face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.” He was not only forsaken by Israel, but by his own family, and the twelve deserted him in his time of need, and one even betrayed him.
Jesus was illegally arrested at night due to the testimony of paid informants, whose testimony did not agree. He was illegally tried at night by a kangaroo court. The next morning he had a second illegal trial and was found guilty of the charges against him.
Jesus Christ was tortured both physically and mentally, and he suffered the death on the cross as a disgraced criminal.
At his night trial, the members of the Sanhedrin covered Jesus’ head with a hood, and savagely beat his head while taunting him to prophecy who was beating him.
Peter denied even knowing Jesus. As he denied him for the sixth time, the guards removed the hood from Jesus’ savagely beaten head, and their eyes met.
Jesus knew what it was like to have a broken heart. He knew what it was to suffer mental anguish.
After suffering such head trauma from the beating of the seventy, Jesus likely suffered a concussion from the blows to his head. He probably dealt with the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and suffered from the effects of sleep deprivation.
Do you think he might have been tempted with depression after being rejected and deserted by all of his loved ones? He suffered but he did not break, he set his face like a flint until he accomplished our salvation.
The Lord Jesus Christ understands what we go through because he has been there himself. He was a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. The chastening that brought us peace was upon him, and by the scourging and beatings that he endured we were healed.
God made Jesus, who did not know sin, to be our sin offering so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
Dearly beloved, in that he himself suffered being tempted, he is able to help us when we are tempted. He is touched by the feeling of our infirmities. He is able to sympathize with our weaknesses; he was tempted in all things as we are, yet he did not sin.
Dearly beloved, he understands the trial of our believing; he went down that path, also.
Jesus Christ accomplished what none of us can accomplish for ourselves. He bore our sins and our sicknesses. We need the spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional healing that only he can provide.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the healer of broken hearts. He made it possible for us to have the peace of God.
The justice of God is by the believing of Jesus Christ to all those who believe on him. He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. He did what none of us could do for ourselves.
His yoke is easy, his burden is light, dearly beloved.
Jesus Christ is the great physician the world so desperately needs. He is the heart specialist that heals the sickness of the human heart. He is our burden bearer, and our comforter.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the one heart specialist capable of such healing, dearly beloved. He understands the trial of our believing.
Through Christ we have access by one spirit to the Father. He understands the trial of our believing. He will never leave us or forsake us, dearly beloved. Go to Him.
