Who Do You Trust?
Dearly beloved of God, we read record after record in the Scriptures that God delivered His people against all odds.
Regardless of which record we read, two things are consistent: their weakness, and God’s ability and willingness to deliver them.
God was able and willing to deliver His people regardless of the odds against them.
For example, God delivered them from a worldwide flood against all odds. He make a path through the sea as the Egyptian army pursued them. He made the sun stand still in its course so they could win the battle. He turned the sun backwards ten degrees for Hezekiah as proof that He had healed him of a deadly condition. He delivered the three men from the burning fiery furnace. He delivered Daniel from the lion’s den. He delivered David from Saul.
Against all odds, God raised Jesus Christ out from among the dead after he was in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. No one had ever been raised from the dead and given everlasting life before this. He was the first begotten from the dead, but many will be raised at his coming.
Dearly beloved, God is able and He is willing to make a way for us where there is no way.
God wants us to trust Him and have confidence in Him. He wants us to take Him at His Word.
We are not the only ones to live in troubling times. We have not been carried off into captivity as Israel, and Judea were.
Our deliverance is not dependent on the conditions in the world. God is not limited by economic conditions, nor by pandemic conditions, nor by political conditions, nor by military conditions.
We have a choice to make. We can either put our trust in God, or choose to trust men.
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
“I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” God delivers from everything that makes us afraid.
Worldly alliances, their limited resources, and men’s unreliable words are a false dependence.
God told Isaiah not to walk in the way of this people, saying, “Say ye not, ‘a confederacy,’ to all them to whom this People shall say, ‘A confederacy;’’ neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the LORD of hosts Himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.”
They thought that they could depend on their worldly alliances, and in men’s promises. They should have trusted in their God.
Jeremiah prayed to God saying, “Ah Lord GOD! behold, Thou hast made heaven and the earth by Thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for Thee.”
Instead, God’s people decided to worship Baal, and put their trust in alliances with other nations, and men’s words instead of God’s Word, and His ability to deliver them. How did that work out for them? They went into captivity.
The men of the world cannot do what only God can do. They cannot deliver us from sin and death. They cannot heal from incurable diseases. They cannot save the environment. They cannot bring world peace. They cannot save us from the wrath to come. Their promises ring hollow.
God did send Jesus Christ to save us. He sent His Son to bear our sins in his own body on the tree, by whose stripes we were healed. God has given us the victory over sin and death.
God will send His Son to gather us together up to meet him in the air. He has saved us from the wrath to come. God will make all things new again in the third heaven and third earth.
Our God is the God of salvation, and deliverance, and we can trust Him.
Our God delights in our prayers, and He answers our calls for help. We can have confidence in Him. Our help comes from the LORD. Go to Him.
Dearly beloved, God is true to His Word. He is not a man that he should lie. Trust Him, not the world.
