God's Word, Power, and Faithfulness

Dearly beloved, the creation, from the atom to the universe, attests to the brilliant genius, infinite wisdom, and glorious creative power of the One True God.

Romans 1:18-20 NIV: “Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

The creation is the proof of its Creator. It is self-evident, obvious; it is axiomatic.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” The Spirit of God moved, God said, and so it was. The power of God to perform His Word is set forth at the very commencement of revelation.

God’s Word always accomplishes His purposes. Heaven and earth move at His Word. Nothing is too hard for Him because He is the all-powerful God. Nothing can keep Him from His purposes. When He speaks, that settles it. The gospel of John draws our attention to this very truth.

John 1:1-4: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

All from the beginning to eternity hinges on God’s ability to perform His Word. You cannot separate God from His Word, or from His power, any more than I can separate you from your word, and your ability.

Verse three, says, “All things were made by him . . .” The word “made” is the Greek word ginomai, which means, “to come into existence; implying origin”. God brought all things into existence. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Psalm 102:25-27: “Of old hast thou [God] laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou [God] shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou [God] art the same, and thy [God’s] years shall have no end.”

Think of the wisdom and power it took for God to create the heavens and the earth. He utilized the same power and wisdom to make man.

Isaiah 43: 7: “Even everyone that is called by My name: for I have created him for My glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

God formed his body, made soul-life in him, and created the spirit of God in him. As God performed His Word to create the heavens and the earth, and to form, make, and create man in His image, He will also perform every word of His promise for which we hope.

Despite this, in the last days mockers will question that God will fulfill His promise. They say, “’Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.’ For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: but the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment, and perdition of ungodly men.” II Peter 3:4-7.

The ungodly should take the power of His Word into account, but they don’t. The long suffering of our Lord is salvation, but they reject it.

Beloved, we will see the fulfillment of His promise. Our Lord Jesus Christ will come and save us from death or from mortality, from the Lord’s Day, from the wrath of God, from the judgments of the ungodly, and from the destruction of this heaven and earth.

We will not be destroyed in the lake of fire like the ungodly. We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness. We will have new glorious bodies like our Lord’s glorious body.

Our end will be quite different from those who mock God and reject His Word, and deny His power and faithfulness. We have the promise of life in Christ Jesus our Lord and we will be glorified together with him when he comes. The suffering of this present time is not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed to us.

Rejoice, and don’t faint dearly beloved. God will send Christ Jesus our Lord for us, and by his power he will perform every word of God’s promise to us. He is faithful that called us!
