What Day was Jesus Born?
Dearly beloved of God, Jesus was born in 3 B.C., Tishri 1, on the Hebrew calendar. Tishri 1 is Rosh Hashanah, which is New Year’s Day in modern Judaism.
Originally, Tishri was the first month, but God told Moses at the time of the first Passover that Nisan “shall be unto you the beginning of months.” With this renumbering of the months, Tishri became the seventh month.
The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were both celebrated in the first month of Nisan. The Feast of Tabernacles was celebrated seven months later at the time of the final harvests.
When God changed the order of months, He designated Tishri 1 as the Day of Trumpets. This is recorded in Leviticus 23:23-25 and Numbers 29:1-6.
Although each month began with special offerings, and trumpets were blown, on Tishri 1 they were much more extensive. The historian, Alfred Edersheim says that in Jesus’ day, “During the whole of New Year’s Day [Tishri 1], trumpets and horns were blown in Jerusalem from morning to evening.”
Tishri 1, the Day of Trumpets, came to be recognized as the day that Israel reaffirmed its acknowledgement that Jehovah was the one great and true King over all.
The reign of Judean kings was counted from Tishri 1 to Tishri 1. The blowing of trumpets was part of the coronation ceremony of the new king.
In Revelation 11:15-17, the blowing of a trumpet is associated with kingship. It speaks of seven angels with seven trumpets. The blowing of the first six trumpets culminates with the blowing of the seventh, which draws our attention to the sovereignty of God. The seventh trumpet in Revelation will herald the lordship of God, and His Son Jesus the Christ.
Jesus was born on Tishri 1, the Day of Trumpets during the Feast of Tabernacles, which celebrated Jehovah as the One True God, the civil new year for Judaism, the day that a new king’s reign was celebrated.
On Tishri 1, 3 B.C., Jesus the Christ, God’s only begotten Son was born in the city of David, Bethlehem. Trumpets blew celebrating the birth of the King of kings, and Lord of lords although it went unnoticed by the world.
God marked His Son’s birth by His Word, and by celestial events in a way that only God could orchestrate.
Rejoice, the promised seed, the second Adam, the Savior of the world, Christ the Lord was born. Rejoice!
