The God of All Comfort
Dearly beloved of God, God our Father is the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our trials and afflictions so that we are able to comfort them which are in any trouble by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
When you compare the trials and afflictions that Paul endured to make known the gospel of God concerning Jesus Christ these words are noteworthy and worth our consideration.
Paul was stoned and left for dead, beaten, jailed, and lied about by the adversary’s sycophants nearly everywhere he went, not to mention everything else he endured. You can read about what he endured in II Timothy 3:10-13.
I am certain that most, if not none of us have endured the tribulations he endured, and yet he wrote:
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
It is worth considering His source of comfort, is it not?
David likewise had the same comfort as Paul. We can read about it in Psalms.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your Name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those of us who seek You.”
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
“Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the Lord has comforted His people and will have compassion on his afflicted.”
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
God is still the same God that He was for Paul, or for David. He is the LORD; He does not change. Dearly beloved, that God, the One True and Living God is God our Father. Rejoice!
He comforts the broken-hearted. Go to Him and He will comfort you as He comforted Paul and David. He delights in our prayers; His ears are open unto our cries. He is the God of all comfort. Go to Him, dearly beloved.
