Can You Predict the Future?
Dearly beloved of God, how well can you predict the future? God is amazingly good at it, even if we are not.
We all know that we are going to die. That’s about all human beings can say for sure. No one lives forever, but God tells us what lies ahead in our future.
Those who confess Jesus as Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead will be saved when he returns to gather us together unto him in the air.
He will raise the dead in Christ, and change those of us who are alive, and together we will be gathered together up to him in the air.
Those in Christ have already been judged in Christ and we are justified. When he comes for us we will acquire the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. We will not only be with him, we will be like him, and glorified with him.
Those in Christ will have the life of the ages, and we will see the new heavens and new earth, and we will live with God our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, and reign with them forever.
How certain am I of these things? Multiple prophets recorded hundreds of prophecies over a span of some twenty five hundred years concerning the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and he fulfilled every last one of them. God accurately predicts the future.
Dr. Arthur T. Pierson, in a series of lectures called, God’s Living Oracles, said:
Over 300 predictions about the Messiah are to be found in the Old Testament. According to the law of compound probability, the chance of their coming true is represented by a fraction whose numerator is one, and the denominator eighty-four followed by nearly one hundred ciphers. One might almost as well expect by accident to dip up any one particular drop out of the ocean as to expect so many prophetic rays to converge by chance upon one man, in one place, at one time. God has put especially upon these prophecies as to His Son the stamp of absolute verity and indisputable certainty, so that we may know whom we have believed. Mistakes in so solemn a matter are fatal and God meant that none should be possible.
God marked every conceivable detail concerning the coming of His Son. Jesus Christ fulfilled every word that concerns his first coming so we can be confident that he will perform every word that concerns his second coming.
Isaiah 14:24 AV
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
If we are not to wander aimlessly through life, it is vital that we understand the Word of God. The Word of God will answer our questions concerning life, death, salvation, resurrection, and beyond.
These issues belong to a realm that exists beyond the reach of human wisdom. No man can understand this realm without the revelation knowledge of God’s Word. His Word shall stand and it will come to pass as He purposed.
Ephesians 1:18 AV
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints . . ..
God desires that we understand the hope of His calling. He gives us certain hope in the midst of all the guesswork and speculation about the future. God does not want us to be ignorant.
Isaiah 46:9 and 10 AV
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
No one has to be ignorant. God has declared the end from the beginning. The only source from which we can gain this knowledge is from the revelation that God gives us in His Word.
Isaiah 42:9 AV
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
God’s track record is reliable; He is trustworthy. God is the only One capable of teaching us these things. It is available to know about them if we will but take the time to study His Word.
Isaiah 42:23 AV
Who among you will give ear to this? Who will hearken and hear for the time to come?
This is the real question. He is searching for those who will listen to Him. Man cannot even reliably predict the weather from one day to the next, much less eternity.
God has planned for eternity, and He is willing to give us an understanding of what the future holds if we will listen to Him. He does not want us to be ignorant.
If you know God’s Word you can be confident that you know your future, dearly beloved. God said it, and that settles it! Rejoice forevermore!
