The God-given Proof
Dearly beloved of God, God our Father desires true worship.
Jesus Christ said, “But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship Him. God is Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23 and 24
To worship God one must have the spirit of God. As human beings we are born with a body and soul life, the life of the flesh, which is breath life.
“Verily, verily I say unto you, Except a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” Jesus said. John 3:3
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh: and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said you must be born again.” John 3:6 and 7
When we are born again we are born of the spirit from God.
The prophet John the Baptist said, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He that comes after me is mightier than I, Whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the holy spirit, and with fire.” Matthew 3:11
After his resurrection from the dead the Lord Jesus Christ said, "And behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you: but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you are endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:49
In Acts 1: 4 and 5, the Lord said, “…but wait for the promise of the Father, “which,” saith He, “you have heard of me . For John truly baptized with water; but you will be baptized with the holy spirit not many days hence.” This took place on the Feast of Pentecost. You can read the entire record in Acts 2.
When the twelve apostles received the gift of holy spirit they were born again of the spirit from God; they were endued with power from on high, and they entered the kingdom of God.
In response to what this meant, Peter said, “This Jesus has God resurrected, whereof we are all witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the holy spirit, he [Jesus Christ] has shed forth this which you now see and hear.” Acts 2:32 and 33
What did they see and hear? They heard the twelve manifest the holy spirit by speaking in tongues, which was the God-given proof that God raised His Son from the state of death. Those who heard them speak, heard them speak the magnificent things of God.
Romans 8:15-18 gives us more information.
“For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the spirit that makes you sons, whereby we cry, “Abba, Father.
The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed to us.”
Dearly beloved, the Lord Jesus Christ sent us the spirit, and every child of God can manifest it by speaking in tongues. We are born again of the spirit from God the moment we confessed Jesus as Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead.
Speaking in tongues is the God-given proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Speaking in tongues is the God-given proof of our sonship; that we are the children of God.
Speaking in tongues is the God-given proof that we are heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.
Speaking in tongues is the God-given proof of the coming glory that is ours in Christ; we will acquire the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Rejoice, dearly beloved of God, God our Father has sealed us with the promised holy spirit; it is the deposit and guarantee of our coming inheritance on the day of redemption.
God our Father has given us access to Him by the spirit that Jesus Christ made available in the new birth. He exhorts us to come to Him boldly, having confidence.
Now we are fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God. We are God’s sanctuary, His dwelling place by the spirit; we have the God-given proof.
We can speak directly to the Father as we speak in tongues. He has given us the divine language of the spirit so that we can communicate directly with Him until Christ Jesus our Lord returns to gather us up to him in the air.
Rejoice forevermore.
