Not A Bad Deal

Dearly beloved, the word gospel means glad tidings, good news. Our Lord invited those who were weary and heavy laden to come unto him so that they might find rest. He was God’s messenger of peace. God sent him to offer himself for the sins of the world.

He publicly announced God’s terms for our acceptance: believe on him whom God has sent. His word is that of reconciliation between God and man. His law is the law of love. His sacrifice was supreme; that of his own life.

He believed God to accomplish God’s plan of justness so that we could be justified freely through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God set him forth to be a full payment through his blood. God said, “I will forgive their iniquity and remember their sins no more.”

“Whosoever believes in him shall not be disappointed in their expectation.”

What more could have been given; what less could have been required?

Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, according to the Scriptures; and thus the Apostle testifies: “Those things which God had showed by the mouth of all the prophets, that Christ should suffer, he has so fulfilled.”

“He has borne our griefs, he has carried our sorrows.” Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many. “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.”

“All we like sheep have gone astray, and have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

What more could he have given; what less could have been required?

“He was cut off out of the land of the living.” “He made his grave with the wicked and the rich in his death(s).” “He poured out his soul unto death.”

What more could he have given; what less could have been required in order to receive such great and precious promises?

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Not a bad deal in order to acquire salvation and eternal life. He has shown us such great grace and required so little of us to acquire it.

Thank God for His unspeakable gift.
