Whose Lamb is Better?

Dearly beloved, when Israel put the blood of their lamb on their doorposts and lintel, and God saw it, the destroyer passed over their home, while the first born of the Egyptians and of the animals all died. Eating the Passover Lamb and spreading its blood on their door posts brought them immediate deliverance from slavery and physical healing.

The Lord Jesus was our Passover Lamb. The Lord Jesus instructed his followers to remember what he accomplished in his suffering and death. The cup represents what he accomplished for our forgiveness of sins. The bread represents the suffering he endured to accomplish our physical healing.

When Israel ate the first Passover, at least two and a half million people left the bondage of Egypt without one feeble person among them the next morning. Is our Lamb inferior to theirs? Jesus Christ was the Lamb of God and he was every bit as valuable as their lamb.

The Lord Jesus his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes we were healed. The Passover was God’s idea and it was His idea for Jesus to die as our Passover Lamb. Is our deliverance in Christ any less than Israel’s was when they killed a lamb and ate it?

Jesus was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes we are healed. He completed the job His Father gave him to do. He was a better sacrifice, the mediator of a better covenant based on better promises; the sprinkling of his blood speaks better things than that of Abel’s sacrifice, and he issues in a better hope. Was their lamb better than ours?

Jesus came to fulfill all righteousness; to fulfill the law and the prophets. His work was to finish the work His Father gave him to do. His last words were, “It is finished.” He accomplished it all. He fulfilled it; he finished the work he was sent to do. Jesus Christ believed to accomplish the righteousness of God. He is the author and finisher of the believing; the only one to receive the promise of eternal life and sit down at right hand of God. Was their Lamb as good as ours?

Was their lamb better than our Lamb? Our Lamb was without sin. Our Lamb is able to save to the uttermost and ever lives to intercede for the saints. Our Lamb is the mediator of a better covenant based on better promises. Our Lamb, by his own blood, accomplished eternal redemption. Our Lamb perfected us forever. Our Lamb made us dead to sin and alive unto God, and we were healed by his stripes. Our Lamb was Jesus Christ and God validated his work by raising him from the dead.

We enjoy immediate benefits when we remember what he accomplished, beloved, so remember and believe it. The Father freely gives us all things with Christ; we fully share with him in his accomplishments. I would say our Lamb is far, far better than the one they sacrificed in Egypt.
