What Is God’s Will for Me?

Dearly beloved of God, when it comes to spiritual matters, God does not want us ignorant; He says so.

If He does not want us to be ignorant about these matters then He must reveal the truth about them so that we have His instruction.

How else could human beings gain an understanding of matters that exist in a realm that we cannot see, hear, smell, touch, or taste? These realities are spiritual matters, God determines these realities.

For example, how could we know “the mystery of His will” had God not revealed it to us? God is Spirit and no man has ever seen God, much less known one of His secrets.

Ephesians 1: 9 and 10 reveal that He “made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself...”

How could we possibly know this unless he chose to reveal it?

“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever….” Deuteronomy 29:29

The only way that people could know what is hidden in God is for Him to reveal it to us. How does He do this?

“If you have heard of the administration of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: how that by revelation He made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto His holy apostles and prophets by the spirit….” Ephesians 3:2-5

God gave the Apostle Paul revelation about this mystery, and he wrote it down so that we could understand the knowledge of this truth.

This mystery was hidden in God from the beginning of the world until God decided to reveal it. Once we know what He revealed we can understand it.

I know, you are thinking that this is too simple; why waste your time on something so obvious? The reason is this; as sons of God He says that there is only way one that we are to believe. We are to believe what God revealed to us in His Word. The Word of God reveals His Will to us. How could we possibly know His Will if He did not reveal it to us in His Word?

Did God give us His Word so that we could put words in His mouth, or determine what we “think” He meant, or choose to believe whatever we decide to believe? We could not treat a legal argument, or a bank statement this way, how much less when it comes to spiritual matters that God alone determined? The Word of God is God’s revelation that makes known His Will.

Dearly beloved, either God’s Word interprets itself, or there is no possible way to know the Will of God. His Word interprets itself either in the verse where it is written, in the context surrounding the verse, or the interpretation will have been given previously.

The writing of the scriptures proceeded out of the mouth of God; they are the God-breathed Word of God, and they reveal His Will to anyone who wants to understand spiritual matters. The revelation of His Word is our only reference for truth when it comes to spiritual matters.

God gave the Apostle Paul revelation knowledge and He instructed him to write it down. For example, listen to God’s Will in these verses.

“There is one body, and one spirit, even as you are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:4-6

There is “one body”, and the revelation concerning it is written in Ephesians 1:23, 2:16, and 3:3-6 reveals that in Christ both Judeans and Gentiles are joint members of this body.

There is “one spirit”, according to 2:18. Ephesians 1:13 reveals that those who believed in Christ, “were sealed with the holy spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance….” This “one spirit” gives us access unto the Father. Both Judeans and Gentiles are joint partakers of the promised holy spirit which Christ sent; he reveals this to us previously in Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4 and 5; 2:33, 38; 10:45 and 11:15-17; and 3:6.

There is “one hope” of which Judeans and Gentiles are joint heirs. [see Ephesians 1:18 and 3:6]

There is “one Lord”, the Lord Jesus Christ [see Ephesians 1:2,3; 3:11; 4:1; 6:10]. God made Jesus both Lord and Christ according to Acts 2:36 after He raised him from the dead, and he ascended into the heavens and He seated him at His right hand.

There is “one faith.” The word “faith” is pistis; there is only one believing and God determines what we are to believe. We are to believe the revelation of His Word.

There is “one baptism.” He reveals this previously in Acts 1:5, 2:38; 11:15-17; Romans 6:3, which refers to being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, by which people received the remission of sin and the gift of holy spirit from God according to Acts 2:38].

“There is “one God and Father of all, Who is over all and through all and in all.” That is His testimony of Himself.

This is God’s revelation to all believers in Christ. It is not up for discussion. This is His Will and we are to believe it.

Believing comes by hearing, by hearing the Word of God [Romans 10:17]; it is God-breathed [II Timothy 3:16]; it came out of the mouth of God Himself [Matthew 4:4]. Where else will we find what we are to believe concerning these spiritual matters, dearly beloved?

“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” I Corinthians 1:10

We should not have 10,000 denominations of the one truth God reveals to us, dearly beloved.

I hear people say that they want to know the will of God for their lives; this is it, dearly beloved. God's Word reveals His Will, and He instructs us to believe it. It is no longer a question of what is God’s will. The question is, will we believe it?
