Walk Worthy of the Calling
Dearly beloved of God, we are to walk worthy of the calling wherewith we were called. What is that calling about?
Ephesians 4:4-6
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
This is the calling to which Christians are called, and we are to walk worthy of that calling.
God did not ask us our opinion about His calling, nor about our preferences concerning groups; nor who we stand with, and on and on the carnal thoughts go. No, God informs us of His invitation or calling and what it involves.
God made Jesus Christ both Lord and Christ. God seated him at His right side far above all others, and He put all things under his feet, and He gave him to be the Head over all things to the Church, which is his body, the fulness of Him that fills all in all.
This is one body, the one body of Christ, which is the Church.
God did not divide Christians into many different groups or denominations; He made the one body of Christ, which is the Church, and He invited us to be part of it.
I Corinthians 1:10-13
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions [quarrels] among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, “I am of Paul”: and “I am of Apollos”; and ‘I am of Cephas”; and “I am of Christ”.
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
God never intended for there to be divisions in the Church. The divisions come from people with carnal thinking.
It is not a matter of whose table we put our feet under; it is a matter of the revelation that God informs us of in His Word; that is our only reference for truth that God has given for our believing.
We should not be divided; that is carnal thinking.
We should not judge one anther; we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give account for what we have done in the body of Christ. He will do the only judging that accounts for anything when he comes.
God sent the Apostle Paul to preach the gospel of the grace of God. God calls or invites people to the one body of Christ, which is the Church through the gospel of the grace of God.
II Timothy 1:9
Who [God] hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
God’s calling was in light of His own purpose and grace. It was with respect to what His Son Jesus Christ accomplished for all people; it was not according to our works.
God’s love for us is overwhelming. We ought to humble ourselves before Him and think soberly.
Who do people think they are to think that they know more than God, or that they could do a better job than He did in forming the body of Christ, which is the Church?
God saved us by Jesus Christ’s accomplishments in his death and his resurrection from the dead. We were dead in sin, without God, and without hope, but He showed us love, grace, and mercy.
I Thessalonians 2:12
That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
God called us unto His kingdom and glory. His calling involves much more than just this life; it involves everlasting life and glory.
Romans 8:30
Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Those whom God called He justified and He glorified. There is no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.
How thankful we should be for His great love, His mercy, and His grace to us in Christ Jesus.
I John 3:1, 2
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
God called us and He named us “the sons of God.” Beloved of God, now we are the sons of God! Behold the manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us.
When Christ returns, we will be like Christ. He will transform these mortal, corruptible bodies so that they have the same form as his glorious body that dies no more. Think about the exceeding riches of His grace that He has shown us!
What a calling with which God has called us!
Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which ye are called in one body, and be ye thankful.
God called us to peace in one body. Why not believe Him, dearly beloved of God.
There is one body, the one body of Christ, which is the Church.
There is one new birth spirit, the spirit of sonship.
There is one hope of your calling, the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to gather us together.
There is one Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ.
There is one faith, the one way that God has revealed that we are to believe.
There is one baptism, the baptism with the holy spirit.
There is one God and Father of all, Who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
We are to walk worthy of the calling to which we are called.
Walk by believing the revelation God has given us to believe.
Walk in love toward one another as Jesus Christ gave us commandment.
We are to guard the unity that is from the spirit in the uniting bond of peace.
Walk worthy of the calling to which you were called. It is a holy calling. We are to be faithful in Christ Jesus, dearly beloved of God.
